We've looked before at a USB 3.0 cable with a wide Micro-B plug. But more commonly used, even long after USB 3.0 speeds were possible, was the USB 2.0 Micro-B plug, which was the de-facto standard for non-Apple phones and all other portable electronic devices before USB-C. Today we're looking at USB 2.0 A to Micro-B adapters.

A short, blocky USB-C to USB-A adapter

This is an adapter that I got together with my phone. I don't know if I ever used it with my phone, but I use it often with my laptop. Maybe I used it once or twice when charging my phone off my tablet, but with the adapter plugged in to the tablet (yes, this is a thing you could do if your devices support it, you don't need to thank me for the tip).

Recently I've been using it a lot, because my work MacBook doesn't have any USB-A ports. On one hand I like it because it's useful, on the other hand I would prefer if everything was using USB-C already and I didn't need it anymore. It's short and blocky, and the A port is a bit off-center:

USB 3.0 A to Micro-B cable

This one is funky! It's micro, but it's wide! I got it with one of my 2.5" external HDD cases. I think some of the devices that are using this cable can also work with a regular micro USB cable, but using a slower USB 2.0 data transfer speeds. Anyway... enjoy!

Odd USB-A to barrel power connector cable

I love this little cable. It could be used to charge a Nokia 3310 from a PC or a regular USB 5V charger. Or Nokia 5510 (this is the one I had). I hope it brings you joy as well!
