Kai Wieland (he/him)
PRODUCT
If you were Kai, you would have studied at KIT and started your career as a working student at a digital strategy consultancy in Karlsruhe, focusing on regional media houses. After that, you’d have joined the Dutch startup Blendle in Utrecht, helping bring its pay-per-article journalism platform to the German market. Since 2019, you’d be working at Steady, starting out on the Data Team before moving into your current role as a Product Manager.
You’d be passionate about finding ways to make journalism sustainable, but also love cooking, eating, and checking out supermarkets wherever you travel—you’d be an avid reader and supporter of Supermarktblog. In your free time, you’d enjoy talking about pop music and reminiscing about the days when you organized Horst, a free open-air music festival in your hometown. You’d also have run a data visualization meetup before the pandemic hit. And as a long-distance cycling fan, your last major tour would’ve taken you from Germany through Vienna and Ljubljana, across Italy, and back via Switzerland.
Now, you’d live in Berlin-Wedding and love the city, even though you always said you’d never move to Berlin (haha).
And in case you’re wondering, your name is pronounced /kaɪ/ (rhymes with “sky”).
